Istanbul is a year-round destination at its busiest during July and August
When to visit
Istanbul is a year-round destination at its busiest during July and August, when high
temperatures and humidity can make sightseeing very tiring. The best hotels are also busy during
this time so you should book well in advance. Outside these months things
are quieter and cooler.
Spring is an excellent time to visit - particularly if you're a fan of
flowers as a Tulip Festival is held in the park at Emirgan, overlooking the Bosphorus.
During the summer there are lots of musical events organised as part of the Istanbul Jazz and Istanbul Music Festivals.
For information and a list of events visit the Istanbul Foundation for Culture
and Arts website.
Winters can be cold and it sometimes snows. But if you want to escape the festive
season madness back home Istanbul is a good bet.
To see the main sights allow at least 2 days, although to really do the city justice you'll
need 4 or 5 days.
