Travel Guide — Rafting

Turkey's mountains and big rivers add up to some exciting rafting action.

Dalaman River

There's good rafting on the Dalaman River which is conveniently close to the coastal resorts of Marmaris, Dalyan and Fethiye. The water is highest and the ride at its wildest in early summer and day trips can be organised through local travel agents.

Koprulu River

The Koprulu Cayi (pictured right) is a popular rafting river and day-trips, which generally include lunch and sightseeing in the beautiful Koprulu Canyon National Park, are offered from Antalya and the resorts along the Mediterranean coast.

Coruh River

The Coruh River in north-east Turkey is one of the world's top rafting rivers with white- knuckle, Class 5 rapids in May and June. Rafting trips generally start from near the town of Bayburt and can last up to a week. There is also rafting on the nearby Barhal River which passes through the town of Yusufeli. You'll have to hurry though, as both rivers will be disappearing underwater soon with the completion of the Coruh Dam Project.
