Dalyan is a relaxed town on the banks of a meandering river teaming with wildlife. Surrounded by fertile fields and orchards, the town has a good selection of small family- run hotels, many of them backing onto the river which is lovely for swimming in. You can also rent canoes and take a paddle around.
On the opposite bank, Lycian tombs chiselled into a rock face provide a dramatic backdrop for a candle-lit dinner in one of the riverside restaurants.
The nearby ruins of ancient Caunos are interesting to explore while downstream is Iztuzu Beach - one of Turkey's finest. The local mudbaths are another popular excursion for day trips or you may prefer to visit the hot springs at Sultaniye.
