Travel Guide — Antalya

Antalya is a large, rapidly growing Turkish city, which has a charming old quarter, known as Kaleici, at it's heart (see right). Surrounded by old defensive walls, the narrow streets of Kaleici lead down to a harbour filled with yachts and tour boats. Many of the area's Ottoman houses have been converted into atmospheric hotels, art galleries and restaurants. Down by the waterfront are a row of cafes where you can sit and watch the local fishermen at work.

The city's pebbly Konyaalti beach (see below) is backed by more restaurants, cafes, as well as a water park, or there is a sandy beach at Lara, 10 km east.

The city has an excellent archaeological museum, and makes a good base for visiting nearby sites like the ancient cities of Termessos or Perge.
