Travel Guide — Ankara

The capital of Turkey since 1923, Ankara is a modern city which doesn’t attract many tourists. There are some interesting sights though, such as the imposing mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Turkish Republic, and one of the country’s best museums, the Museum of Anatolian Civilisation, which has relics dating back over 10,000 years. The old district of Hisar on a hill crowned by a castle is interesting to explore, before heading uptown to the shopping and nightlife of Kavaklidere and Cankaya.

Getting There

There are regular flights from Ankara airport to Istanbul, Izmir, as well as other regional airports.

The city’s huge ASIT bus station has services across the country.
